I personally have been a fan of the Serious Sam series since I started playing it. Right now the series includes 9 games and 10 spinoffs. Thousands of fans like me are waiting for the arrival of 4th inclusion in the series which was earlier announced at Reboot Develop 2018. Despite the fact that more than a year has passed, all that we got from the Croteam is a 1-minute trailer that you can watch it here. No release date whatsoever.

From the trailer itself, the game doesn't look like a complete overhaul of the series. SS4 will be preserving the main theme of the game but this time with even more craziness. The game will not lose its extreme action that we are used to seeing, that's for sure.

Let's have a look at each and everything we get to know about serious sam 4 from interviews and online communities till now. Some things are barely confirmed or are just mere speculation from the fans.

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass release date, characters, weapons.....

What you want to know about the developers is that the Croteam has always been consistent in terms of the release of their games. The announcement of Planet Badass was pretty much a surprise element to all the fans. Other thing is that they care a lot about the game and definitely don't want to rush the production.

After all, SS4 is our baby, we want it to be as perfect as possible.Developers

Release date

Short answer: Not this year. The fact that they are using their own engine might be a factor. Nika Dvoravic (level designer at Croteam) in an interview at E3 said that they are aiming for 2019. If that was still the case we could have seen a final trailer or some sort of solid announcement about the game. As I said, they are not going to rush it so it seems that the second half of 2020 is what I'm looking for.

Serious Sam 4 on Nintendo Switch

In an interview with Wccftech, Alen Ladavac and Daniel Lucic from Croteam shared a few words about the Serious Sam 4's availability on Switch.

Alen: We are working on porting for the Nintendo Switch. I’m not sure what’s the current status and what we can share about that.Daniel: We won’t share much, but it works.Alen and Daniel about SS4 on Nintendo Switch (April 21, 2019)

They also said that they will try to make SS4 available on all platforms that are capable of handling the content of the game.

Weapons

Source: Croteam

We can see from the above images that Sam is once carrying a shotgun on a bike and other time what confirmed as an Assault rifle and a minigun. The confirmed weapons so far are:

Double-barreled ShotgunPump-action shotgun Minigun (Uzi)Assault rifleRevolver (desert eagle)SBC CannonSniper rifle

The XOP Flamethrower is not confirmed as the team is still not sure whether to include it in the game or not.

We had it in prototyping, got rid of it, got it back and got rid of it again. To be perfectly honest I don't know. It all depends on whether we are able to make it happen in a way that makes sense and is fun to use. Devs

Also, we might see some of the weapons like shotguns getting more powerful and more realistic in the game.

Vehicles

The data collected from the official website and screenshots available only 3 vehicles are seen to be confirmed.

MotorcycleCombine HarvesterBulletproof Popemobile

Wroom, wroom – Traversing big environments is no easy task. So get your driving skills ready and jump on a motorcycle, a combine or even a bulletproof popemobile and drive your way through unfortunate enemy pedestrians. Croteam

Enemies

Enemies have been one of the most amazing parts of the Serious Sam franchise and the crazy madness they deliver makes the game what we call Serious Sam. A lot of our favorite enemies like the headless man who explodes when he gets right next to you will be making into the Serious Sam: Planet Badass. This time we will also get to see more variety of enemies as the devs have decided to max out on numbers.

The system that allows us to use tens of thousands of enemies at once on screen, I believe we’ve gotten up now to 100,000 enemies.Daniel

The confirmed enemies so far from the leaked footages and screenshots are:

Beheaded KamikazeCloned SoldierGnaar ProcessedScythian Witch-HarpySirian Werebull KhnumKleer SkeletonMajor Bio-mechanoidMinor Bio-mechanoid

Maps, Locations

Source: Croteam

Over the years we say devs saying “anything you see on the map, you can visit”. Despite the fact that SS4 is not an open-world game, we will get to see a 128km by 128km map. The game is based on earth and some of the locations are also confirmed.

Fight and explore your way through huge environments populated with optional objectives, secrets, and deadly ambushes. But, fear not! Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is still a focused, linear experience you have come to love, and NOT an open-world game Devs

All the locations are not confirmed so far, but we get to know that the game will take place in several locations including France and Italy. Maps that have been confirmed are Desert Temple, Brkeen Chevap and Little Trouble. We will also see new maps as well. Croteam might drop the idea of old Egypt map that fans are fed up of when SS3 was released.

Skyboxes?

Another argument is whether SS4 should include dynamic skybox or not. As we know that the Serious engine is capable of rendering hundred of thousand of enemies at one time, skyboxes shouldn't be a big deal at all. In fact, if they are going for a more open-world experience, skybox must be an inclusion.

Other Details

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass will also support Widescreen and Multi-monitor set up as the previous games did. SS4 will also support VR as Croteam has made some great games that support VR in the past.
